Odell, Bedfordshire
All Saints Church
Tracery of a south aisle window
Five (originally six) identical seraphim dating from ca. 1400, still in their original medieval lead.
Conservation and Restoration
Centuries of neglect had led to the loss of a number of pieces. The
reinstatement of the lost portions was possible because the medieval painters
used the same cartoon for each seraph. We could therefore copy from
the surviving glass.
After careful cleaning and consolidation of the medieval lead and glass the panels were fitted in an isothermal glazing system and returned to the church in 2004.
